The Inman Line was founded in 1850, but did not carry any mail until 1857. The line operated between Liverpool and New York until 1893.

Demarchi Y Hermanos sender’s marking, indistinct Buenos Aires backstamp, per Royal Mail Steam Packet Mersey branch packet departing Buenos Aires October 28, connecting in Rio de Janeiro with Royal Mail Steam Packet Oneida which departed Rio de Janeiro November 8, and arrived Southampton December 2, London December 3, 1862 transit marking, 24 cents London debit to United States for transit fees from Argentina, carried per Inman line Edinburgh departed Queenstown December 3 and arrived New York December 20, rated 45 cents due (37 marking is London Inland Office marking voiding an erroneous marking).

London, England, May 17, 1865, 3 cent Great Britain debit to United States, per Inman Line City of Baltimore departed Liverpool May 17, 1865, arrived New York May 30, 1865, "N.Y. AM. PKT. MAY 30 24 OR 32 U.S. NOTES" depreciated currency exchange office marking.

Smyrna, Turkey, May 14, 1864, Cousinery & fils senders cachet, manuscript rated 20 neukreuzer for transit from Turkey to Austria and manuscript 65 neukreuzer red for Prussian Closed Mail prepaid rate to the United States. Sent to Trieste Austria, where the blue ink X was applied to show the cover was entirely prepaid, red crayon 50 neukreuzer credit to Prussia from prepaid foreign rate of German Austrian Postal Union (Austria retained 15 nkr transit fee, Aachen exchange (indistinct date) Paid 23 cts credit to United States from Prussia, then via Inman line Etna from Liverpool May 25, 1864, "N.Y. AM. PKT. PAID JUN 6" exchange office marking.
