First Federal Issue: Virginia
Virginia First Federal Issue revenues are common. Virginia is the second most common state of origin for these revenues. However, the number of documents recorded from Virginia is distorted by the large numbers of 4¢ and 10¢ revenues. In fact, there are six states with fewer documents recorded of all values combined, than the number of recorded copies of the 4¢ Virginia embossed revenue. The remaining Virginia denominations are of average scarcity. All denominations are recorded to the $1 value.

July 15, 1799, promissory note in the amount of 19 pounds, 5 shillings, 9 pence Virginia currency, signed by the maker, Bartholomew Gunn with an "X" as "his mark." Taxed 4¢ (RM240) as a note above $20 and not exceeding $100 payable within 60 days.
November 28, 1799, promissory note in the amount of 18 pounds, 17 shillings. Taxed 10¢ (RM241) as a note above $20 and not exceeding $100 payable in more than 60 days.
May 2, 1800, promissory note in the amount of 111 pounds, 11 shillings, 8 pence, and penal bond in the amount of 223 pounds, 3 shilling, 4 pence. Taxed 20¢ (RM242) as a note above $500 and not exceeding $1,000 payable within 60 days.
August 10, 11799, second bill of exchange in the amount of $500, taxed 25¢ (RM243) as a note above $100 and not exceeding $500 payable in more than 60 days.
Frederick County, July 25, 1798, penal bond in the amount of 700 pounds, 4 pence, contingent upon payment of a promissory note in the amount of 350 pounds, 2 pence. Taxed 30¢ (RM244) as a note above $1,000 payable within 60 days.
Accomack County, March 13, 1799, penal bond in the amount of 230 pounds, 14 shillings, 4 pence, contingent upon payment of a promissory note in the amount of 115 pounds, 7 shillings, 2 pence. Taxed 50¢ (RM245) as a note above $500 and not exceeding $1,000 payable in more than 60 days.
July 16, 1798, mortgage bond in the amount of 811 pounds, 6 shillings, 8 pence, for 219½ acres of land in Goochland County. Taxed 75¢ (RM246) as a note above $1,000 payable in more than 60 days.
September 6, 1802, performance bond for Dabury Williamson as inspector of tobacco at Shockoe warehouse (Richmond). Out of period use of first issue revenue stamped paper with a partial strike of $1.00 Virginia (RM247). 5 copies of the $1.00 Virginia (RM247) reported, with four being partial strikes.
